The Deutsche Afrika-Linien/John T. Essberger Group of Companies dates back to the year 1924 when the former Imperial Navy Officer, Commander John Theodor Essberger established himself as a tanker ship owner in Hamburg.
Today the group consists of the Deutsche Afrika-Linien operating traditional liner services to Southern Africa, East Africa and the Islands of the Indian Ocean, and John T.Essberger with its chemical tanker, dry cargo and ship management divisions.
